76+4 Trombones Around the Promenade ... (1 of 3)

80 trombones + soprano + organ + a big round building = musical excitement at the Guggenheim with Henry Brant's ORBITS! Sunday, June 21, 2009, 8:30 pm show in New York City.

Per The New York Times:
★ ORBITS (Sunday) At [sic] part of the free citywide Make Music New York festival, the Guggenheim Museum, through its innovative Works & Process series, will present the East Coast premiere performance of Henry Brandts 1979 work Orbits, described as a spatial symphonic ritual for 80 trombones, soprano and organ. The trombonists will be positioned through the circular ramps of the museums central rotunda, and the audience will mill about on the floor. Besides creating the enveloping acoustical effect desired by the composer, the placement of the players will call attention to the design of the space by Frank Lloyd Wright, whose work is being celebrated in an exhibition this summer at the museum during its 50th anniversary.
