How many more literature degrees do we need? Or masters students studying political science? Short answer: none. We need entrepreneurs with vision and the workforce with the skills to make that vision reality.

I was in the same boat. From the cradle all you hear is "if you don't go to college you'll be a failure". Now i may not be working a trade but it is labor but I love it and am making more then my friends who are just getting out of college with a bachelor's degree and are shocked that an $80,000 dollar job they were told they could get right out of the gate and with ease doesn't exist. On top of that they now have student loan debt. Well anyway best of luck.

Congratulations!!! If there were to be a natural disaster, car accident, fire, drought, robbery, shooting, or anything else that might require assistance you, yes YOU, would be the first most useless person there.

Thats genius. The social sciences already are educational entertainment. Poli Sci is like watching a liberal Glen Beck for several hours a day, then taking a test on what he said.

Give me a moment to blow your mind.

What if we made learning a trade be a requirement for a social sci degree?

Wanna be the next Steven King? That's cool, but you need to know how to be a plumber/carpenter/mechanic/etc first. That way if and/or when things go wrong, you are not starving. Even better, make social sci a night course kind of deal, more as educational entertainment then anything, if you do well, you get a fancy desk job, if not, you have a handy trade to fall back on.

I don't think that's fair. He went to school just like everyone else, and tried to get a job just like everyone else. He doesn't think people are lazy - at no point did he say this. His objection is with the attitude the US has about manual labor.

I see your name is EngineeringFun. I would agree that engineering is fun (EE here) . But I do agree that most college degrees aren't necessarily worth what you pay for in terms of the jobs you get as a result of obtaining those degrees.
