The art of udu drum playing by Kenneth Nash, Hugh Humphrey, Marquinho Brazil and Joe Agu.
The Udu originated among the Igbo ethnic group in the east of Nigeria, while the Bata drum originated among the Yoruba tribe in the west.
Joe Agu is of Igbo heritage and the inventor of the patend Udu with drum head makes the authentic Udu drums of various models. The udu drums made by Rhythms is the musicians choice over the years. The Bata Udu is the mother of any Udu out there, this piece of art is a combination of two cultures.

  • Thanks for the compliments PICATO

    Obrigado

  • nice. what brand udus are those?

  • If I would call an Udu a brand in music industry, I will call it Udu-Igbo. The Igbo description, describes the ethnic group in

Nigeria where the Udu drum originates.

I am from this ethnic group.

The Udu with skin drum head was invented and Patented by our company

    Rhythms-exotic Afro Percussions LLC.

  • thanks for the answer. well i was curious about the manufacturer of the udus. i just haven't seen a double skinned udu before. I'm planning to get one now. I'm playing the side skinned schlagwerk and a lp tambuta but i don't like the tambuta much. it's wall is too thick for me and almost all of its sounds are in mid range. btw the igbos don't use skin on their udus, do they?

  • Yes we're aware of Schlagwerk who took

the drum head idea when they saw our Udu-Igbah in Germany by our distributor.

For many years musicians from many countries have commented that the sound

of the shell of our Udu is the best and we're appreciative of that.

The Bata-Udu (two drum heads) was the

very first time we combined two cultures into one instrument. Udu from Igbo and Bata from Yoruba. Free DVD with order. I speak Igbo, Tambuta does not have a meaning in my language.

  • Hi Sailor, glad you checked out the Udu Magic

project. The model with attached skin drum head has a US patent, it is like having three kinds of drums into one. An Udu, Tabla, Talking drum and can sound like a Dumbek. Aslo when you're done playing use it to decorate your home.

Thank for checking us out and feel free to request for catalog/literatures for our latest

instruments introduced at a recent trade show.

  • Does anyone know the dvd or music series this came from? I need to find the full original copy.

  • Yoruba!!! for life!!!!,

  • We have to celebrate when we see serious videos on youtube. Your discover is incredible: a UDU (that we call MORINGA here in Brazil) and a BATA together with an incredible sound and playing. Congratulations !!!

    My respect directly from Brazil.

    PACATO

  • hey can you tell me where can I buy a Bata-Udu? ... Thanks

  • tambuta is a type of LP udus. Quite weird shaped and weird sounding udu :) Yeah, i never heard that kinda crispy sound of an udu shell before. My skinned has the same only at the upper end of the body. And it's a shame for the Schlagwerk to do that. Money talks i guess. Anyways congratulations for those instruments, they are great :) And thanks for inventing the skinned udu. It's one of my fauvorites. :)
