Loveeed it! Roller skating SHOULD be in the Olympics!!

Sorry, but you cannot just practice artistic roller skating anywhere as long as you have skates. The floors built and used by artistic roller skating are specific to that discipline. We drive to the rink too (30 min. for me) and have to pay although it is generally cheaper than paying for separate ice time, but the skates are much more expensive, so it all balances out.

Ice skating is much more smooth, fluid and graceful. The ice adds to the beauty of skating. Id rather watch ice skater than roller skaters!

I forgive you, plus I am a figure ice skater

Eh. Nah. Not for the Olympics.

@iSummerSkates Just because you didn't like it doesn't mean it's not difficult. :)
-
Really? I don't know ANYONE that has done both that would say that roller skating is just "Figure skating made easy".....it's just as difficult! There is nothing easy about figure skating, whether you are on quads or ice, it is equally difficult and demanding.
-
Before you compare both ice and roller skating you should try both....and maybe have more then a year of experience. I've been skating both for 15 years and they are BOTH just as difficult and demanding, and beautiful. And believe me, I'd rather fall on ice then a hardwood floor any day.

Roller skating is equally as challenging as figure skating has ever been. I think that the interest for figure roller skating should be growing at the same rate as ice skating.

I'm a roller judge and began skating in 1958. Roller skating in the US, during the 80's and 90's, had competitors to rival ice, ala Tim McGuire. Today, it is only a shell of the sport I knew. Italy, Germany and some S American countries are beating the socks off us. Many US roller skaters in 2011 cheat jumps and spin poorly. Very sad! Ice dance is sloppy footwork and posture wise, by comparison. But ice dancers "dance the dances" better than roller dancers.

@77angelstorm i don't want it to sound harsh, but i've already done ice skating and i'm currently on roller skate, so I kind know it's easier.

@ScrapdashAF @ScrapdashAF Sorry, but I have been figure (ice) skating since I was 8 and I am now nearly 34. I competed at the National level in my country, and it is NOT an easy sport. That said, I have no problem with artistic roller skating at all, in fact it is more graceful than I thought. It is also a completely different sport. I used to roller skate as a child - quite well actually - but ever since I hit the ice, I haven't gone back, only because I love the ice though.
I use to do artistic roller skating from 10 years old until 15 years old and loved it and also wish it would become an olympic sport. Does anyone know a place in Oklahoma that still teaches artistic skating? I would love to get my daughter in it now. She is just 3 years old.

Wonderful video, Akane! I hope this does make it into the Games someday.

I read the qualifications for being considered an olympic sport and it has to a sport practiced for the past 7 years in 75 different countries and on 4 continents. That's HUGE. Hopefully it'll make it there someday. But I honestly believe it may be 15-20 years before it becomes a reality. :( That sux.

@scifigrl23 I think that the main problems of it not being olympic is the judging system and the lack of publicity in general for this sport (publicity = money).
