英文帝女花 - Lovely Princess - in English 岑南羚

English lyric/ sung by 岑南羚 Lanny Shum . Song performed 1970 at Caesar's Palace,Las Vegas both in Chinese (Opera) & English , Song rec.1980 by Life Rec.The theme of the interpretation of the lyric is very meaningful to the original song. The Chinese opera in Cantonese's been very popular in the past 50 yrs.in Far East. It is little part of it. The story is : A poor scholar fell in love with the Princess. Their true love was not recognized by the King . They sang this song before they committed suicide by drinking poisonous wine.

lols! that is very funny. personally, i prefer the cantonese version to this one. . . this sorta downplays the sadness? grief? that the song originally conveyed. but then again, these are just my opinions :]

I dont think thats correct. The Emporer sanctioned their marriage but before they could the country was invaded by the Chings. They committed suiside because they didnt want to be prisoners of Ching after they got captured. so they hatched a plan to trick the chings into thinking they would help turn public support for them.
