"SAAKASHVILI COULD START THE WAR AGAIN - GEORGIAN NAVY LIEUTENANT, ALIK BZHANIA, WHO DEFECTED TO RUSSIA SEEKING POLITICAL ASYLUM. A SPOKESMAN FOR THE RUSSIAN FEDERAL MIGRATION SERVICE SAID THEY HAVE 183 PEOPLE FROM GEORGIA REGISTERED AS REFUGEES AS OF JUNE 1.SAAKASHVILI IS MILITARIZING GEORGIA AND I`M AFRAID THAT HE COULD START THE WAR AGAIN, SAID ALIK BZHANIA IN AN EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH RT. HE SAID HIS DECISION WAS PROMPTED NOT BY FEAR OF THREATS, BUT DISAGREEMENT WITH GEORGIAN PRESIDENT SAAKASHVILIS POLICIES.
I DID NOT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS, I WAS NOT IN THE OPPOSITION, AND I AM NOT A POLITICIAN. EVERYTHING WAS FINE, BUT I AM JUST AGAINST THE COURSE THAT OUR PRESIDENT IS FOLLOWING, BZHANIA SAID AT A PRESS CONFERENCE AT THE INTERFAX MAIN OFFICE ON FRIDAY.
LIEUTENANT ALIK BZHANIA SAYS THE MAIN REASON HE LEFT IS BECAUSE HE DID NOT WANT TO FIGHT A WAR WITH RUSSIA.

THE GEORGIAN FORCES ARE REARMING. RESERVISTS ARE BEING SUMMONED TO THE ARMED FORCES. I SAW REPORTS ABOUT IT EVERY DAY ON GEORGIAN STATE TELEVISION. SAAKASHVILI IS CLEARLY NOT CHANGING HIS COURSE AND I DONT WANT TO TAKE PART IN ANOTHER WAR WITH RUSSIA. I DONT WANT TO SHOOT AT MY BROTHERS. THATS WHY I LEFT, ALIK BZHANIA SAID.

AT A CROWDED MEDIA BRIEFING IN MOSCOW, BZHANIA EXPLAINED WHY HE WANTS ASYLUM IN RUSSIA, POINTING HIS FINGER DIRECTLY AT HIS COUNTRYS PRESIDENT.

IN THE GEORGIAN ARMY, WE COULDNT EVEN SAY SOMETHING NEGATIVE ABOUT SAAKASHVILIS REGIME. OTHERWISE WE COULD BE IMMEDIATELY KICKED OUT. AND I COULD NO LONGER TOLERATE WATCHING MY COUNTRY BEING DESTROYED FROM THE INSIDE, ALIK BZHANIA SAID.

SPEAKING ON WHY HE CHOSE RUSSIA AS HIS DESTINATION, HE SAID HE HOPED FOR HELP FROM HIS RELATIVES LIVING THERE. HE ADDED HE DIDNT SEE RUSSIA AS AN ENEMY OF THE GEORGIAN PEOPLE AND BLAMED THE GEORGIAN GOVERNMENT FOR PUSHING THE CONFLICT OUT OF CONTROL.

RUSSIAN-GEORGIAN RELATIONS HAVE BEEN TENSE SINCE TBILISI ATTACKED SOUTH OSSETIA LAST AUGUST, SPARKING A FIVE-DAY CONFLICT.
TENSIONS HIGH IN GEORGIA
WHILE THIS BLAME-GAME CONTINUES, GEORGIA IS GOING THROUGH REPEATED POLITICAL CRISES, AND OPPOSITION LEADERS SAY NO WONDER SOMEONE WOULD WANT TO DEFECT FROM SUCH AN ARMY.

OPPOSITION RALLIES HAVE BEEN CONTINUING FOR WEEKS, WITH PROTESTERS LOCKING THEMSELVES IN CAGES WHILE DEMANDING PRESIDENT SAAKASHVILI STEP DOWN.

THEY HAVE ACCUSED THE PRESIDENT OF TURNING GEORGIA INTO A POLICE STATE AND CREATING A CORRUPT POLITICAL REGIME.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Mikheil Saakashvili's decision to use the opening of the Olympic Games to cover Georgia's invasion of its breakaway province of South Ossetia last August, 2008 must rank in stupidity with Gamal Abdel-Nasser's decision to close the Straits of Tiran to Israeli ships.
Nasser's blunder cost him the Sinai in the Six-Day War. Saakashvili's blunder meant permanent loss of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
After shelling and attacking what he claims is his own country, killing scores of his own Ossetian citizens and sending tens of thousands fleeing into Russia, Saakashvili's army was whipped back into Georgia in 48 hours.
Reveling in his status as an intimate of George Bush, Dick Cheney and John McCain, and their lone pseudo-democratic ally in the Caucasus, Saakashvili thought he could get away with a quick genocide and present the world with a fait accompli.
Western media charges of so called Russian aggression ring hollow. Georgia started this fight -- Russia finished it and saved small nation of South Ossetia. Russia has invaded a sovereign country, railed Bush and his propaganda machine corporate media. But did not the NATO bomb Serbia for 78 days and invade to force it to surrender a province, Kosovo, to which Serbia had a far greater historic claim than Georgia had to Abkhazia or South Ossetia, both of which prefer Moscow to Tbilisi? Is not Western hypocrisy astonishing?
But in August 2008 the neoconned Bush Regime and corporate Media were heading the innocent world toward nuclear war using Georgian dictator. Would it happened again? When the Soviet Union broke into 15 nations, West celebrated. When Slovenia, Croatia, Macedonia, Bosnia, Montenegro and Kosovo broke from Serbia, West rejoiced. Why, then, the indignation when two provinces, whose peoples are ethnically separate from Georgians and who fought for their independence for decades, should succeed in breaking away? Are secessions and the dissolution of nations laudable only when they advance the agenda of the neocons, many of who viscerally detest Russia? Bush, Cheney and McCain have pushed to bring Ukraine and Georgia into NATO. This would require the United States to go to war with Russia over Stalin's birthplace and who has sovereignty over the Crimean Peninsula and Sebastopol, traditional home of Russia's Black Sea fleet. When did these become U.S. vital interests, justifying possibility of nuclear war with Russia?

  • i agree with the ironical part that westerners 'cant support families' but support illegal immigrants and their children. if you look at france or uk or spain/italy (frontier for african immigration) you'll see how big the problem is. the gov' are too [put your grief of choice] to be more strict on the immigrancy issue.

i dont think europeans owe anything to other continents. we have our own, serious problems. egoistic? yes. so what? i dont remember africa sending aid to europe.

  • I agree with you. My comment is a reply to a comment which apparently had been removed.

  • Of the predictions of Russia becoming the hope of the Earth - in 100, 200 years (more or less) Western European peoples will be replaced by the African and Arabic peoples owing to thier increasing birthrates & White lowering rates (native Europeans having to work harder to pay taxes which support large immigrant families - feeling that they "can't afford kids"). The people make the culture - where modern civilisation is European, lose the European, lose civilisation. Russia will survive however.

  • In the West it was reported as an invasion of Georgia for NO REASON (Georgias attacks on S.Ossetia for 3 days were utterly ignored). There are crooks on all sides but in the recent conflict the Georgian military and politicians were TOTALLY in the wrong; I wish the best for the people however now my anger over the issue has subsided.

  • Nothing wrong with being Georgian! If however you are a supporter of the attacks on S.Ossetia, and of villians ('national heros') like Stalin, then yes - you are a bad Georgian IMO.. The normal people over there are getting pissed off with the current government and thier lies, this is encouraging - there is so much censorship in the country (and much in the West as well) so people ahve not had a clear understanding of what occured..

  • So is it a good thing for one to be Georgian or not? I believe there is nothing wrong with that. And I have nothing against either Georgia, Russia, Abkhazia or Ossetia.

  • Sucko is yankee-sponsored nazi scum.
