nice one...I get to the park at 6 am when it opens..wade out into chest deep water and cast rattle traps till the sun comes up..if I havent caught my limit by then, I start throwing the cast net for live bait...I use carolina rigs with 4/0 circle hooks...sometimes I use shrimp, crawfish or chicken liver..if I night fish I tye a glow stick to the tip of my rods

what was that fish? Looked like a hybrid striper.

@klinteris Wow I guess it never occurred to me to add that bit of information, Yes it is a Hybrid Striped Bass. It's cross between a White bass and a Striped bass. The easiest way to tell the difference is the stripes on it's side. On a Hybrid they are muttled and on a full fledged striped bass they are perfect lines. Plus they Hybrid won't grow as big as a natural Striped Bass. Biggest Hybrid I've ever caught weighed about 8 Lbs at Braunig Lake on a jugline.

We seldom buy bait... We use a throw net and on this trip we caught SHAD. I actually wanted to fish with Tilapia, I use a 3" , Tilapia and scale it and cut off the head tail & fins. Carolina rigged with at least a 3/0 to 6/0 circle hook depending on the bait size.

what kind of bait were you using

@showstoppa7 I guess TexasAggie04 didn't get your question... They were more than likely using either Shad or Chicken Livers. If you have ever fished with Shad and then switched to chicken livers.... They smell almost exactly alike, thats why striped bass and hybrid bass will hit the Chicken livers.
