The globally unique flora and fauna of Western Australia's Banded Ironstone Formation Ranges in Western Australia's Yilgarn - near Kalgoorlie and Geraldton - are threatened by irresponsible mining. Despite the Environmental Protection Authority recommending against mining, WA Premier Colin Barnett and Environment Minister Donnah Faragher have recently allowed three mines in Mungada Ridge, recommended as an A-Class reserve. Now the Conservation Council is campaigning to make sure other high conservation value ranges, such as those in recommended A-Class reserves at Mt Manning don't receive the same fate.
