With the performance, De Slaapkamer (The Bedroom in Arles) by Vincent Van Gogh (1889), penguin dance brings children from 6 till 12 in their own school or in the theatre, in contact with Vincent Van Gogh. In about 45 minutes the children get an impression of his colourful work, his excessive personality and the poor circumstances in which he lived.
In a dream night Vincent is visited by a few figures and objects out of his own paintings. Vincent is dancing with the sun flower girl, the sower, and his mistress, Sien. The décor is his bedroom in Arles which was painted and became a masterpiece. The bedroom itself comes alive. One of the chairs is taking Vincent on a wild dance and also the bed doesnât seem willing to give him a good nights rest.
