  • Regardless of political affiliation, we can all agree that this was a great slogan and a great ad.

  • Greatest political advertisement I have ever seen! I was not alive to see this campaign but when I view, it gives me hope that maybe we will once again see a positive election campaign that really shows the people that it is their responsibility and their right to elect their own government!

  • @murphe777 Menzies gave the go-ahead for Britain to drop several atom bombs on Australia. He did not consult his cabinet, let alone the Australian people. The local indigenous people were not cleared from the area.

  • @murphe777 Whitlam "failed at economics" only because the Liberal dominated lower house blocked the money supply. What he excelled at, was the ability to see that raising the quality of life of the people is what governments ought to focus on.

  • I think Alison McCallum's voice and emotional projection deserve a special accolade here.No matter how clever the plan, it took an artist to inject spirit into it.

The dismissal of Whitlam was a backward step in the evolution of the Australian ethic.

  • quite frankly I'd say that the lyons government's decision to try to deny him entry had more to do with his strong communist views and desire to go around creating revolutions, than his jewish origin.

  • @AussiePolitics Every government had pros and cons. Whitlam was a big thinker who failed at economics. However he did give us the likes of Medicare and legal aid.

If you want to look at pros and cons, take Menzies. He was the primary prosecutor of the abysmal Australian government's case against anti-nazi jewish Egon Kisch. One could have been forgiven for thinking that Menzies was pro-nazi in the 30s.

  • "typical brainwashed right wingers"

coming from someone obviously in love with whitlam.

im not saying it wasn't time for change, obviously after holt died there weren't too many leaders left in the libs, however what I do wish is that labor had been able to either a) provide someone who actually could run the economy or b) have bill hayden as treasurer so at least someone competent was doing the job

  • @AussiePolitics oh what a load of shit

2 decades of growth under menzies? the world oil crisis fucked the economy, when barrels went up 4 fold in under 2 days.the uk at the time was under 26% inflation,a lot higher than ours, pensioners starving because the libs didnt index pensions with inflation. the things we whinge about NOW the whitlam govt were trying to fix back then, typical brainwashed right wingers.

  • born to rule? hate to break it too you but whiltam was an arrogant prick too and had one of the biggest "born to rule" attitudes of any politician in australian history. menzies had experienced losing his job as leader, being ostracized from the party he used to lead, and then when it collapsed he created a new one, led them in opposition for several years and then won government. liberal politicians like menzies do not take anything for granted.

  • oh what a load of shit. whitlam by his own admittance did not have a clue about the economy. he should have appointed someone competent to treasury like bill hayden.

australia enjoyed two decades of growth and stability. then whitlam wizzed in and singlehandedly fucked the economy up in a bit under 3 years
