The Renault Z.E. (Z.E. stands for Zero Emission) is a program of all-electric cars from Renault and it began with a series of Z.E. concept cars. The first production car is the Renault Fluence Z.E. that is scheduled for sales to the public in Israel and Denmark by late 2011 as part of the Better Place network.
n 2010 Renault announced details of the first vehicles intended for production in 2011, the Fluence Z.E. and Kangoo Express Z.E. models.[10] Customers in several countries can pre-reserve models at the Renault-ZE web site, although as of April 2010 it has no pricing details.[11]

Renault announced the city car previewed by Zoé Z.E. Concept will be produced in Flins in France, and the vehicle based on Twizy Z.E. Concept will be built in Valladolid in Spain.[12]

Renault will initially purchase batteries from AESC, the Nissan-NEC joint venture in Japan. It announced development of battery production facilities in France, Japan, Portugal, UK, and the USA.[

@Zolega89 I live on an island of 246 square kilometres (95 square miles) and even here they're a non-starter. No range worth mentioning, the batteries are gone after five years, and there aren't enough rare earth metals (for batteries) on the planet to have any sizeable percentage of cars be purely electric. Purely electric cars are an evolutionary dead end.

It'd be more economical to modify the existing fleet of cars to use greener energy conversion mechanisms, and for people to retrain to do this. Obviously that's not going to happen en-mass!

I thought this was an environmental advert to do with how the electricity for everyday things is produced, before I saw the Volkswagen thing at the end. What's shown is actually happening, probably with less pollution than shown, it's just happening somewhere else (at coal-fired power plants), so it's out of mind.
