I have fond memories of these cars, i passed my driving test in one of these in nov 79, it was a 1971 J reg Austin 1300, lovely car to drive, roomy, economical, and nice handling/ride and excellent brakes, they were well ahead of their time, the only real fault they had was they were rust prone, especially the rear subframe/mountings, sills and front wings being the worst areas.

discocreator 76 is talking out his arse !!!! the 1100/1300 models were stunning and massive sellers !!! the allegro is a pig of a car that helped destroy the british car industry !!!

Good video and a great little car, easy to work on, quite reliable with the good old 'A' series engine and SU carb.
The car's hydralastic suspension gave a good ride and handling.
Like the Mini it was ahead of its time for technology.
The countryman version is my favourite like Basil Fawlty's car. The front doors are different to the saloon, ie the 'B' pillar slopes backwards on the countryman version.
Incidentally, what is the name of the background music on your video?

My father-in-law bought a new one in 1967. He lent it to me a short while later and I wrote it off on the first journey. Not the best day of my life!

yes, the Faulty Towers one was an estate version

Is this the car that brakes down in Faulty Towers?

i had a 1967 F reg version.
ALL instrumental sound. I didn't hear ANY vocals. Certainly no Shirley Bassey. Not that it matters much.

Sadly the Shirley Bassey sound track was removed. It's a shame as it was a fitting track to have to this video.
