ANCHOR:
As the Beijing Olympics is coming close, the number of people who are calling on the Chinese government to improve its human rights is growing. On the 16 of June, Swedish Parliament held a hearing and invited witnesses to speak from different groups that have faced persecution in China. Let's take a look at this report from Stockholm.

STORY:
Representatives from the Tibetan Association, underground Christian churches, Falun Gong, freedom Writers Association, the pro-democracy movement, and Mongolia were invited to the Swedish Parliament to speak on the abuses they have endured under the Chinese Communist Party's rule.

Members of human rights groups pointed out that the Chinese government has not fulfilled its promise to improve human rights and has instead used the Olympics as an excuse to strengthen information blockades and accelerate the persecution to the Chinese people.

[Lennart, Swedish Councillor] (quote1, male): "Many people are thinking what on earth happened in Berlin in 1936. Was it to do with a big publicity for the Nazi totalitarian dictatorship? I think our generation has the responsibility to remind everyone that China is a totalitarian dictatorship, where people have no freedom, human rights, security or protection of their legal rights. "

At the hearing, Falun Gong practitioners spoke about live organ harvesting occurring to adherents of the spiritual practice.

The Vice Chairman of the European Commission spoke about infiltration of the Chinese Communist Party culture into democratic countries.

[Lindblad, Vice Chairman of the European Commission] (quote3, male): "[The CCP] uses the university's Confucius Institute, which is actually a communist advocacy center, to influence Western students and governments. On one hand, it instigates demonstrations, which is an outside attack. On the other hand, it uses advocacy, which is soft power. Those are its two strategies, but it will not really succeed in influencing us."
