This shape note song has words by Isaac Watts (1707) and tune by Daniel Read (1785).

My thoughts that often mount the skies,
Go, search the world beneath,
Where nature all in ruin lies
And owns her sovereign, Death.

As recorded at the Missouri State Singing Convention, Pinckney, MO, March 2008.

  • Again the involvement of the snngers with the music is so moving! (Don't know if you received my previous notes; am I using the right means of replying to you?) B.

  • Thanks for your appreciative comment. In answer to your question: there are a couple of ways to send me a message via YouTube. One is what you did here - post a comment that is open for everyone to read (including me). Another is to go to my 'channel' and click on 'send a message.' That way it isn't posted but comes to my inbox and e-mail.
