On Sunday, July 31st, after his last-round game in Dortmund against Hikaru Nakamura, we spoke to Russian top grandmaster Vladimir Kramnik. The 10-time winner of the Sparkassen Chess Meeting lost that game after taking some risks. He explains how he experienced that game, compares this event with Kazan and reveals how he spent his time between that tournament and Dortmund. "It's a pity that I don't know how to prepare."

  • *Great player, great man!

  • Kramnik's ideas are not for commom person...

His deep understanding smashes any chess engine... it will take more 100 years to create a chess computer which may think like Kramnik...

  • I've stopped going to tournaments that are not rapid play or blitz timed because often long play tournaments end in draw after draw after draw and often quickly (Grandmaster draws) Perhaps only receiving HALF a point would make the players play more often for a win? For me, as a humble spectator the long game tournament IS in crisis . . . .

  • He played great creative chess, racking up alot of wins in a row, and it looked he could have reached 2800 club again, but he played safely to secure the win in the last 2 rounds.

  • Vlad. Kramnik is one of my favorite players :)

  • Kramnik doesnt give enough back to chess...

Chess made this guy a millionaire... and he pretty much owes everything to Nimzo's "my system" (which karpov does too), btw in which nimzo says "top players arent secretive", and gives all his ideas away.

Kramnik wrote a dodgy book and made a dodgy dvd both without any real insights to his thought processes, just some variations and non helpful comments.

Kasparov taught this guy a lot, and he is still petty and in competition with him

  • Le Quang Liem is better

  • Red caviar.

  • Good work ChessVibes! TY for posting interviews, analysis, man on the street perspective.

  • interesting to actually hear him talk about the game
