from my all-improvised 2009 recital. Visit http://jcrooks.com for more info. The leaf piece uses the ratios found in the major scale to create a framework for improvisation. These ratios are found in the time scale of the piece, the accompanying synthesized sound, and in the video, which relates these ratios to similar patterns found in crocus flowers. The video is timed to match the sections of the improvisation, and the computer listens to pitches played in the bass to determine when the next section is cued.
