Man really when it comes to tuning my toms i tune them according to sound and tone. I dont really use any of the technical methods but when im done tuning the end up on the same pitch but i dont try to.
The best thing i can tell u is to know what sound ur looking for. The bottom head changes the tone of the note while the top changes the pitch. Every drum is different so the key is to find that pitch and tone that the drum was meant to produce. When u find it u will know.
