This is the best speech I've heard in a long time! We should expect great things from him one day!

I wish I could have gone to Harvard. But I am too lazy, too stupid. These people are inspiring. I wish I could talk as confidently as Mr Bollard.

Thanks I looked at the whole video of the oration.... I remember the introductions and they clearly stated which were "funny" speeches. I thank you for your kindness however. The reason why I made the comment is because I think this guy's speech was more to the point, it left you something behind to think about and was even witty at times. Well rounded speech, short, precise and to the point. I liked it.

this was the most academically sound speech and less comical....he is right on point though...nobody laughed 'cause the the guy was more serious. However really good insight is provided.
@caesiume anyone can speak with the same amount of confidence and with the same “prestigious” diction. Don't sell yourself short just because he is standing there and you aren't. The only difference between you, me and him is a big bag of cash.

Ok. i'm responding to you, because I've seen you comment on a few of the Class Day speeches, and I'm thinking maybe you're unfamiliar with the setup. The reason this speech is serious in tone (and the reason no one laughed) is that it is one of the two "serious" Orations (known as Harvard Orations). The serious female speech is Kendra Booth (the spoken word piece). And the two "comic" speeches (known as Ivy Orations) are Will Houghteling's and Alison Rich's speeches. Hope that helps.
