CHEN:
India has deployed thousands of police for the Olympic torch relay through New Delhi. The Indian authorities have kept the time of the run a secret for fear of Tibetan protesters attempting to disrupt the ceremony.
Tibetan demonstrators protest outside the hotel that is holding the Olympic Torch when it arrived from Pakistan on Thursday in New Delhi.
Police arrested protesters who tried to break through a security barrier and enter Le Meridien hotel.
The protests have forced India to trim the route to a third of the original distance, restricting it to a high-security stretch used for the annual Republic Day parade in the Indian capital.
India's top cricketer Sachin Tendulkar pulled out of the relay on Wednesday for personal reasons, a few days after soccer captain Bhaichung Bhutia pulled out to express solidarity with the Tibetan cause.
