im a new linux user. and personally my plan was to play around with mint for a bit and get to know what linux was about, as it seems to be quite user-friendly. once i have got the hang of it ill start trying new distros and swapping desktop mangers. i think that all the Ubuntu off takes are very good OSes for the average user and/or new linux users

Well, not every distro is friendly, but you seem to have mastered every distro so that's good for you.
Typing? Yes typing is hard.
Command Names? You have no idea. I don't even know what 'ls' does.
You are missing the point. There's really no need for arguing about distros anymore. We have different opinions and that's fine. You use Ubuntu or Mint and I will use mine.

The thing that irritates a lot of new users is the elitist attitude of veteran Linux users dumping on the newer, user-friendly versions of Linux, as if being hard to install and/or configure is a good quality for an OS to have or a medal of honor. These newer, user friendly OS's help the average PC user to just get stuff done. The closer they get to MS's level of dumbed down the sooner they can usurp Microsoft, which IS the idea, right?
