  • Celeste Zappala, a grieving Gold Star mother, is always convincing, but too many of the comments simply do not understand that we can start winding down the violence by pulling all Americans our of Iraq, the sooner the better. Our lying occupation is causing violence. Not just troops but contractors must come home now, and no permanent bases. Not only can the lives of troops and Iraqis be saved, but the soul of the U.S. is at stake. (Perhaps that means more to a veteran.)-- A Vietnam veteran

  • Eloquent mom. She spoke for all of us who are against the Iraq war.

I just watched PBS' Frontline-Bush's War Part I. You would think Collin Powell produced it.

Not 1 word about "My Pet Goat," instead the show started with claiming Bush's people kept him rapidly moving the moment the 1st Twin Tower was hit. Nothing about Plane Wreckage, bin Laden Family being picked up across USA & flown out of USA during 9/11,Terror Alerts, Anthrax, Rumsfeld & Cheney's Motive, Saudis, Patriot Act, etc.

  • I was there when her son was killed. good for her speaking up the way she is. I will never forget

  • I think we should do same in Afghan. Pull back to Kandahar. Let Taliban/Al Qaeda get the sense that they've won, that we've lost the stomach to fight. Let them come out into the open again, let down their guard. Take a few years & try to infiltrate the various tribe/cells within the border region. Lull them into a false sense of security hoping they make a mistake, build up our human intel capabilities. Then, right before Obama's re-election campaign, we strike hard & bring Bin Laden to justice!

  • If Al Qaeda was able to stay in Iraq, without US presence, it'd be likely they'd come out of hiding & start operating openly, trying to recruit Iraqis, setting up training camps, etc just as they did in Afghanistan prior to 9/11. With the network of contacts the US has built up in Iraq over the last 5 yrs, we should have no trouble infiltrating their ranks. Then, once we had sufficient intel, we could strike & stike hard, and leave no one to escape as we did in Tora Bora.

  • I think the best thing to do now is to pull out completly. I firmly believe that the IRaqis will not tolerate Al Qaeda foreigners on their soil any more than we do. This is evident in the Sunni Awakening which was due to a desire of Sunnis to rid Iraq of foreign fighters. But, if they aren't successful routing Al Qaeda from Iraq or decide to compromise w/them in return for peace/safety, then us pulling out completely (or at least appearing to) might lull them into a false sense of security.

  • Absolutely terrible..

Doesn't make it any better but most wars that last 1 week have 10x more deaths. Especially, an invasion.

BUT, I may have no say because I'm Canadian, but we can't pull out of middle east now. It will turn into a safe haven for terrorists then they can begin to plan to attack North America.

Like Metallica once said.. "Sad but True"

  • I disagree with you there, all war is immoral. Check out the following video for my position (expressed by someone else) in detail:

  • Luke12000, they bought into a lie. There are some battles that must be fought. Not this one.

WWII we were the guys with the white hats.

  • Ok, but the "pawns" signed up to be "pawns", regardless of the lies that may have contributed to them signing up, they did, voluntarily, and they don't escape responsibility. Murder is murder, the fact that someone told them to do it means nothing.

In the end, soldiers enable war, not chicken-hawks.

  • Luke12000, our Troops are pawns used and trained by orders from Cheney, Rumsfeld and the rest of the Bush criminals.
