NOTE: Excuse the slightly darker eye, i had just finished filming a tutorial on make up for guys on tv, etc... and you can still see the slightly darker lash line on my left eye! Sorry... slightly unbalanced.

This is a little chat about makeup and how to make money from being a make up artist.

The two mediums i wanted to work in were:

One On One Sessions with women (and men) - teaching people how to apply makeup and showing them what products really delivery and what products don't. I also record the session so that when i leave they have a reference on how to apply the makeup again and again and again ....

Weddings: If you get really really good at wedding makeup you can change £1000 plus and people will pay. But being good requires trusted techniques and learning the best way to apply makeup for that medium. Its not as easy you people think. The skin has to be flawless (and i mean flawless) contouring and highlighting are more important than foundation. Eyeshadows needs to have the right balance of shimmer and matte. Lashes need to be the blackest and black and often times required blending in black pigment to increase this. Lips need to be outlined, filled in and contoured. Cheeks need to be perfect blend on matte and shimmer. The chest must match the skin tone 100% and no make up ever must transfer to the dress. The makeup has to be waterproof. Its a long list and you cannot expect to charge high prices unless you're 100% sure you can delivery on all your promises. My makeup kit costs a bomb, and i make sure that 90% of my make up for weddings is water proof (not water resistant). That includes lips, cheeks, eyes, foundation, etc.... nothing must move, even when crying.
See, its not as easy as people think, but its very rewarding.

I hope you found this a little bit helpful.

  • Mr. Wayne, I love your speech and it gave me inspiration to try your suggestions though I am highly doubting MAC and Sephora would hire an 18 year old gal since they all want Licensed Cosmetologists that are beyond the 21 age limit.

Thank you for the video though<3

P.S. Am I the only teen that watches him?

I must admit, even though you suggest these certain makeup tips for older women, I will try them out myself too.

  • can you do a bridal makeup look? we would love to seeeee!!!

  • Hi Wayne! I'm wondering if you would consider doing some videos specifically on wedding makeup, as you mention it being much trickier than it seems. I am starting out in the industry and want to learn as much as I can about this area as its the best option for me as an artist. I would love to learn about going from various lighting situations as well as do's and don'ts for makeup in wedding photos. Would make a lovely series, hint hint! wink...

  • I like watching your tutorial videos and reviews. They've been really helpful. :)
