@CheapDumbFunAnd why shouldn't MEN OR WOMEN be allowed to CHOOSE to be prostitutes? It's their choice and, it is obvious that making it illegal only does more damage than good to those involved in it. Equating it with sweat shops is just BULLSHIT! The physical damage of poor working conditions are much easier to QUANTIFY than the claimed PSYCHOLOGICAL damage of working in porn. You can think what you want but, we shouldn't make laws or change society based on your OPINIONS or WHIMS
-
@CheapDumbFun Women that work in porn are not necessarily "more susceptible to violence"! It's easy for you to claim that but, you have no EVIDENCE to back it up. The ones that were abused are more likely to choose and stay with UNHEALTHY and ABUSIVE mates but, this would be the case with or without porn. Porn does not make men ANY MORE LIKELY to be VIOLENT or SEXUAL offenders! There is nothing to back these claims up! About 100% of men view porn so, they should all be offenders
-
@CheapDumbFun Also, the men in porn make MUCH LESS so there are jobs for them to do the same and make LESS! That is a FACT! Not everyone in porn is working out psychological trauma and it is not unhealthy for everyone. Even if it was it wouldn't matter. We don't prevent people from doing anything that is unhealthy for them and we should not. Being as fat as Dworkin was is UNHEALTHY as well. Should we NOT ALLOW her to be this way????????????????
-
@CheapDumbFun First off, men DO work in the porn industry! Is it NOT degrading to them as well??? Secondly, her claims are NOT THEORIES, they are HYPOTHESES! I think you're confused about SCIENCE. THEORIES are hypotheses that are SUPPORTED by EMPIRICAL DATA. They have been PUBLISHED in PEER REVIEWED publications and there is at least some agreement in the field as to their MERITS! Her claims have NONE of this. Just the MUSINGS of a SAD and PATHETIC PSEUDO_SCIENTIST!

@bbnatedogg Dworkin is a feminist theorist which means her "claims" are theories. If we're watching a person who has psychological trauma as a child perform humiliating acts, how is that healthy and why do we allow it? That means they are victims and more susceptible to violence. If this is normal, why are there no jobs for men to make as much money and go through the same acts as female performers? Why is the suicide rate so high in pornography industry? The industry dehumanizes in violent ways
-
@bbnatedogg I think you're missing the point. There are adult women who CHOOSE to work in sweatshops as well as CHOOSE to be prostitutes, as noam chomsky further explains. The point IS our system is corrupt and broken because it has created jobs so degrading and exploitative, the human is taken out of the equation. It all comes down to money. I'm going to generalize and say yes, MOST women do not grow up wanting to be porn stars and most parents do not want to their children to be porn stars.

One MAJOR PROBLEM with her ASSERTIONS! No researcher has ever backed up all these HYPERBOLIC claims with any CREDIBLE DATA. It's really easy to make all kinds of claims. It's much harder to back them up. I don't disagree that a large number of the men and women who work in porn had bad childhoods and are trying to work out psychological trauma. But it is not our place to decide whether or not they can do so. Her claims of porn leading to more sexual assault ate just plain incorrect!!!
-
@dtmcopeland You miss one MAJOR DISTINCTION! Children are not ADULTS and do not have the right to make every choice for themselves. So are you saying that women are not ADULTS and do not have the right to choose for themselves?? I guess you're the adult and, you KNOW WHAT"S BEST for all women. How pretentious. I could accuse you of the infantilization of all women, like some feminists do of men!
-
@andycorreia it's called rape culture and pornography, particularly gonzo porn (which is mainstream porn), is a part of that. and as naom chomsky said, if a child CHOOSES to work in sweatshop, does that make it okay? No. If a woman chooses to be a part of pornography and the degradation of women, does that make it okay? Her exploitation is not excusable, regardless of whether you chose it or not. She is a victim of living in a patriarchal society. So thank you dworkin

And probably from as much from Feminists who recognize that this sort of misandry is one of the lingering ghosts of the radical era; a ghost which needs to put to rest if the Cause is to be treated with the respect and consideration which is due.
Did Dworkins, indeed does any one on the Feminist right, really believe that fighting for an openly hateful attitude towards men does anything other than pour scorn and ridicule on the prospect of true equality.
i fucking love you andrea dworkin and screw you hip feminists who need to demonize her to feel good and 'sex positive.' her overall's are cool, get over it. she has done so much for the visibility of and ability to speak out against sexual violence and how it permeates our lives

When a woman in the US chooses to participate in a porn movie you cannot call that rape.
