This animated video is part of the "Eat the View" campaign to turn part of the White House's 18 acre lawn back into an edible landscape. The video tells the story of the "America's Garden" from 1800 when President John Adams planted the first "first vegetables" to feed his own family to the present day.
It ends by peeking optimistically into the future when President Obama, seeing how our world is changing, announces plans to replant America's garden, inspiring countless citizens to grow some of their own delicious, healthy, and environmentally responsible food.
The "Eat the View" campaign is powered by real people like you. If you haven't yet signed our petition, please do so here: eattheview.org/petition
The video was produced by the nonprofit group Kitchen Gardeners International (KitchenGardeners.org) which is leading the "Eat the View" campaign. The animation is the creative genius of Eliot Morrison of yiggs.com.

Produce shipped from far away is not only tasteless but also less nourishing by losing the vitamins from the moment it is harvested.

I sure hope the Obamas put in a garden at the White House. What a great message that would send across the country and across the globe.

It's too bad our schools don't EACH have personal gardens to help teach kids valuable lessons. Math, science, history, and even English (etomology of plant names, etc) can be taught with a garden as a hands-on classroom. Not to mention teamwork (that doesn't create enemies like sports do) and the sense of community it builds. It could also help offset rising food costs, and teach kids about nutrition and helping the environment by eating locally grown food.

I doubt that he is an American Citizen, don't expect him to do anything American, less it's done by force or to hide his real identity. Thank you

Big deal they planted a garden. Obama could snap a deuce on the lawn and say it saves water and fertilizes, and you'd say he's a real inspiration to us all.

Loved the video! I didn't realize that there used to be such extensive edible gardens at the White House. iliketolearn is right that the Obamas putting in a garden at the White House would send a great message. And the video was sure right about out of season produce (usually shipped from far away too) is generally tasteless.
