HaitiXchange caught up with Nadege Fleurimond of Fleurimond Catering, who was gracious enough to show us how to prepare a popular Haitian dessert called "Blan Manje", or "White Food" when translated. It is a creamy, yogurt-like dessert which is surprisingly easy to whip up.

Nadege Fleurimond is a young chef at the head of Fleurimond Catering. Born in Haiti, Fleurimond grew up in the United States; however, she gained her appreciation of flavors, textures and colors associated with the Caribbean lifestyle, from her strong upbringing and background of her Haitian culture.

Nadege has been using her entrepreneurial skills and and flexing her culinary muscles for years now in the New York metropolitan area and beyond. Catering to all types of events, big and small, formal and informal, there appears to be nothing she cannot do and no food she cannot cook. Although her repertoire spans many cultures, we are especially proud of the way she promotes haitian cooking, and promotes it to the world.

Blan Manger Recipe
12 oz of sour cream
8 to 12 Oz of condensed milk(depends on sweetness level desired)
12 oz of fresh cut up fruit (kiwis, strawberries, mangos, pineapple, etc..your favorite fruits will do. You can also use fruit cocktail mix)
Teaspoon of vanilla
Zest of one orange
Maraschino stemmed cherries

In container add fruits along with ½ cup of rum. Let soak in rum for about 1-2 hours. In separate container, mix sour cream, condensed milk, orange zest and teaspoon of vanilla. Let chill in refrigerator. After fruit has soaked, mix in with sour cream mixture and refrigerate again for another 2 hours. Serve in small ramicans or red wine glass. Garnish with stemmed cherry.

Orange zest is the finely chopped, orange portion of an orange peel. It's used to give things a slightly orange flavor.

I finished all the Blan Manje that Nadege made. So now I'm tempted to go out and buy the ingredients and try this on my own today.

I love everything....only thing I think you should do is get an editor if you want this on video...because the milk running down the can and on the table in not too appetizing to look at....the scene should have been cut and picked up again with a clean can and table....other than that great job!

I know what you mean. But I was there, saw the milk running down the side of the can, did the filming and the editing, and still ate all the Blan Manje after Nadege left. (It was good!) LOL.
