How to make a lightsaber in Adobe After Effects

Make the saber

1. Drag you footage into a new comp
2. Go to Layer, New Solid (Ctrl+Y)
3. Call it Saber, make comp size, doesnt matter what color
4. Make the layer screen
5. Go to Effects and Presets, type in saber
6. Drag Light_Saber_V2 onto your solid layer
7. Click the Motion Blur icon for the solid layer and for the comp
8. Go to the end of the time line (End)
9. Select the solid layer then go to Effects Controls
10. Click the stop watch for Start and End Position
11. Position the Start and End Position
12. Move a frame backwards (Page Up)
13. Repeat steps 11 and 12 until done

Make the Matte

1. Go to Layer, New solid (Ctrl+Y)
2. Call it Matte, make comp size, doesnt matter what color
3. Make the layer screen
4. Hide the Matte layer and the Saber layer
5. Select the Matte layer then select the pen tool (G)
6. Make a mask around what needs to be matted out
7. Hit MM
8. Feather the mask 1px
9. Key frame the Mask Path
10. Changed the mask for the frames needed
11. Make the Matte and Saber Layer reapier
12. Change the track matter of the Saber layer to Alpha Inverted
13. Select the Saber Layer and go to Effects Controls then turn off the show glow and change the core color to white
14. Select the Saber and Matt and go to Layer, Pre-compose (Ctrl-Shift+C)
15. Go to Effects and Presets, type in saber
16. Drag Light_Saber_Glow onto the pre-comp

Much easier to follow and loads quicker than some of the other tutorials Ive been getting frustrated with. Looks like me and the kids will be duelling all day for footage tomorrow.

Hi! I made all in the tutorial and it works. But in my video, the saber passes behind me two times in the same scen. I can't cover it the same way twice. It just wont cover the saber again. And if I switch position of the layers I may cover the saber again, but the other cover is gone. Please help.
