Working class artists discuss balancing their responsibilities with their creative process in this work of animated nonfiction. The Ice Cream Room was one of almost a dozen spaces used as artists' studios and independent businesses in a converted dairy factory in Ellensburg, Washington, which was destroyed in a fire in early 2007. This is a portrait of resilience and the effort to derive meaning from tragedy. This film focuses on Sloe-T and Seed Verb of the venerable punk hip-hop crew Log Hog as well as multiple subsequent bands and music projects that they have spawned. Although I can't tell the stories of everyone in this community, I would like to express my respect and condolences for their loss and wish them the best as they move forward.
This was animated by hand; it was not motion captured or rotoscoped.
Directed by Giles O'Dell
Music by Log Hog, Mark & Tom, Ohnny Presto
