Fairmont Preperatory Academy assisted Back to Natives Restoration on Wednesday October 15, 2008 at a habitat restoration site at Mason Regional Park in Irvine. The service learning project has recruited several high school, university, junior high and scout groups to assist with weed abatement, native plantings, seedings and biological monitoring over the course of their school years. BTn is hoping to restore a 3.5 acre site at Mason Regional Park in Irvine, CA using Coastal Sage Scrub, Coastal Strand and Riparian species of native plants. How cool that the kids understand WHY they are volunteering (to help restore the habitat) rather than just participating in a forced volunteer day like so many other high school kids.
