I mounted a Sony Handycam under my truck to capture the noise that I can hear. The whine starts at ~15 mph up to ~50 mph then disappears (example at 3:26 and 4:26 min into video). I hear it accelerating and decelerating as well. I wonder if it is a differential bearing or something to do with drive shaft.

  • Oh great, I have a 97 dodge ram 1500 and couldnt figure out where that noise was coming. I thought it was the wheel bearing so I replaced them and still that whining, I hope my tranny doesnt break.

Good luck slayer, let us know how it works out.

  • Damn, I am in the same boat today... Except mine makes this noise at idle too!

  • same issue here... hoping its covered by the 5 year 100000km powertrain warranty.

  • did you ever get it fixed and if you did what was it

  • Hope someone could help me out I have that same winding noise but it's on a 04 Pontiac grand prix with about 84k miles u can't hear it when it stopped but the faster I go the louder the sound

  • I have a 2007 F150 truck that is doing this same thing! After watching this video I went to a Ford dealership and just got them to check it and see what it could be. Only finding out that the noise is in the transmission and it has to go into the shop in a few days. I told them that I found it on youtube.com and they were not surprised. So thanks for posting this video! So it's a bad bearing ... right?

  • @bmwrocks325 my diff is blown, id get yours checked out might be worn out

  • i just took my 08 F150 to ford for the same reason, i should know wed what the problem is

  • @LOBOFORD3 Yep. I have a 2007 Ford F-150, Lariat, 5.4L that makes that noise when I start off. It's just in the transmission. The little gear pump that pumps the tranny fluid I believe is what's making that noise.

  • @mkrp4 That little "howl" noise you're talking about at the beginning of acceleration I believe is the oil pump bearings speeding up in the transmission as the truck takes off.

  • @Trenton1390

Unfortunately, no, the bearing was in the transmission. While it cost me $2200 to fix my problem, that partially because we started with the torque converter. If we had started with the tranny, it probably would have cost $500 less or so. Sorry to hear you have the same symptoms. Please do let us know how this works out.
