A 20-year-old Penn State student was diagnosed with meningococcal meningitis in March 2009, taken by life flight to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, and released a week later. He is home and recovering. With the potential for an outbreak of meningitis, or any other contagious and potentially life threatening disease at Penn State , the University's Health Center staff led by Margeret Spear takes immediate action to contain the spreading of the disease and monitor the university community for symptoms.
