the real story is that the husband was gone and Indians that had been raiding all her neighbours and killing them were coming towards their house so she took the children to a pond. they started to cry as they got closer so she put them underwater and accidentally drowning them. when they left she saw what she had done and killed herself

man.. not to talk shit.. but my grandfather told a better story then that foo... hell he even said that he hear LA LLORONA,.. no bullshit!!! he said.. when he was a child and his 30s...... he would hear her cry and so on... and it scare the fuck out of him!!!
