What you need to know: * The multiplayer side of Crysis 2 is being handled by Nottingham, UK-based Crytek UK, who were previously known as Free Radical Design (of TimeSplitters fame) before they were purchased by Crytek in 2009. * Crysis 2 offers all the typical modes you'd expect from a multiplayer shooter, like deathmatch and team deathmatch (dubbed "instant action" in the game), as well as the CTF-esque CT Relay. Now for some numbers: there are six MP modes total, with eight variants to employ; four classes are available, with five extra slots for custom classes; players can progress through 50 ranks online. * The Nanosuit is one element that helps differentiate Crysis 2 significantly from other multiplayer shooters. Each shoulder button triggers one of the Nanosuit's unique abilities; hitting the left button will turn on the suit's armor mode, which allows players to soak up more damage for a brief time, while the right button turns on stealth camouflage. Unlike stealth camo in other shooters, Crysis 2's camo makes players completely invisible to other players, albeit for a short period of time. Firing a gun while stealth camo is turned on significantly lowers the time it's available, so melee kills are the preferred mode of attack when camouflaged. * In addition to stealth and armor, the Nanosuit offers a few other unique abilities. By jumping into the air and then pressing the B button, players can unleash a stomp attack that decimates anything within the immediate vicinity, other players and objects in the environment (like cars) included. Speaking of cars, the streets of NYC are littered with them, and walking up to one and hitting B will unleash a brutal kick that sends the car flying. A good way to avoid a car careening in your direction is by utilizing a power slide-esque move, which can surprisingly carry you for a pretty long distance. * We couldn't delve too deep into Crysis 2's perk system, but the ones we saw were pretty unique. The most interesting was the tracker perk, which allows players to see wisps of trails when stealth-enabled players walk by. * The ways in which players can utilize Crysis 2's Nanosuit online vastly changes the pace of the typical online FPS match. For about the first 10 minutes of my time with the game I was playing like I would in a Call of Duty or Halo, but quickly realized that Crysis 2 requires a little bit more finesse. The most successful players in our matches were the ones who utilized stealth camo efficiently, and took advantage of the game's over-the-top move-set. Also, there is something really satisfying about kicking a 2-ton car into your opponents.

Point in development cycle: The game is due out on 22 March, so it's nearing the end of production fairly soon.
