I've been noticing all the sample videos from n900 not having smooth playback. I mean, at some point, and quite often, it looks like frames capturing is highly reduced causing the objects in the video to kinda jump about centimeter while playing. I thought may be it was in youtube but the original video sample downloaded also has the same problem. Do you see such thing in the device itself???
Your right, at times the performance does vary and you can see it whilst your recording video.
Just hoping it's something that can be fixed with a simple firmware/software update. Some features on the phone seem a little rushed so my hunch is that they ran out of time on certain things....with the camera being one of them
