This is a fu*king amazing song. You can picture the white Luna as a drug, lover, a idea, or all the above for just expression of the confusion of a person, Nevertheless, pretend to be Yuri Gagalli can have so many meaning, such as the dream of a ancient king who never tought that leave Earth is possible. Love PJ.

I saw P J harvey on this tour in Birmingham England sometime early 90's That gig absolutely fucking rocked. The noise was incredible!

i reckon its about someone trying to get over addiction of (some sort) and using a substitute of (some sort), its abit simular to Nirvana's 'Anurysem' in away where it can be interperted as a love 'sick' song or be about heroin addiction. just saying :)

@slimedtooth Yep, that's pretty much it. She's jealous of Yuri G (Gagarin) the astronaut for being able to get so close to the Moon. The doctor gives her a figurine of some type to serve as an embodiment of her precious Moon and with it, she attempts a "drawing down the moon" ritual. A ritual said to be able to bring the moon down from the skies at your command. That's sort of the gist of it, as far as I understand.

i actually think this song is about heroin.

It's about being in love with the moon!

the ride comin' in at 2:24 for 10 seconds is killllllin' it. it's the subtle details among everything else

@violetknives Yeah but is this meant to be literal or what? I could see it as symbolic as some kind of drug, like heroin. Or it could intentionally have a double meaning....
