Gradius 3 arcade loop 2 stage 2 beaten with no deaths.
Starting weapons: missile, laser, 4 options, and a partially-depleted shield.
After you beat the game, you loop back to stage 1 on a higher difficulty. This is what "loop 2" refers to.
Regrettably, the boss self-destructs before I can kill him :(. If you look closely you can actually see it regenerating at some points!
You may notice that, right at the start of the boss, I have an option sitting in the middle of his body yet I don't fire very many spread bombs. This is because earlier I had a run where I did just that, and the boss's inner-tunnel graphics got bugged somehow. I don't think it has any effect (i.e. you can still kill him), but I wanted to avoid it anyway.
Played on MAME32 v0.95
2006 June 18
Played from a state saved at the start of loop 2 stage 2.
# of attempts: many many many many many

It's unfortunate that neither version of Gradius III that was released was really definitive. If only someone would create a version of the game that was essentially the SNES port (the easier, better looking and better-sounding version) with the arcade levels added back in. It would be perfect.

Have you ever PLAYED the arcade version?

Actually, the other stages except stage one aren't changed besides difficulty because the developers didn't expect anyone to get that far. The game was designed to be hard so people would just pump quarters into it, but backfired, making it the shortest lived Gradius AC game...

Everyone should check out BGRerobachi's run of Gradius III Arcade on one credit. It's incredible.

Having played both arcade and SNES, loop for loop, I can safely say that the arcade version is the harder of the two. It looks like the programmers' original goal was to make the sequel to Gradius 2 more intense, but it backfired by making it too difficult. Meanwhile, good job on the vid, Bill!

Wow, that boss is a lot easier on the SNES/Wii VC version.

This game is madness! Thankfully, there's a little bit of slowdown to help you out. How you could avoid so many obstacles without dying or colliding is beyond me. Besides, I believe this game could even be more challenging than it already is!

durr? its loop 2 thats why it looks harder and from what i know of the SNES version the bubbles cause a major slow down causing you to have less then precise control of the ship because of the speed up speed down effect as speeds shift it throws reactions off big time. SNES version notorious for this, arcade fairs better from looks of it, and yet you think SNES version is easier?
