It was a windy day in Austin, June 13 when Tea Party activists gathered for an anti-immigrant rally on the steps of the Capitol. The wind makes part of Rebecca Forest's speech inaudible. So here it is:

"If you want to know why we can't pass legislation in Texas it's because we have 37, no 36, Hispanics in the Legislature. All of the states that have passed legislation have a handful and I mean literally, some of them have NO Hispanic legislators, well, maybe 3 or 5 or something. So that's, umm, part of our problem and we need to change those numbers. Umm, we need to do something about that in fact, during the debate on "sanctuary cities," several Hispanic legislators testified that their grandparents and their parents were migrant workers who came over here to work and that THEY even worked in the fields. And some of them even admitted that they had been here illegally and that they came illegally. So the problem is these Hispanic legislators ... is that it's too close to them and they, umm... simply cannot vote their conscience correctly. So that's about all I have to say to you, please come to the hearing, and help us spread this message. Thank you."

How lovely.

  • so close to 5000. this should be required watching for undecided voters. the tea party are not our friends, people!

  • Is it racist to say that there are too many white legislators?

  • @DoSoLittle yes

  • I LOVE the wide shot. all those people!

  • @erdanidi i counted 25 that day. Average age: 60.

  • Okay, so let's assume that there are many racists in the Tea Party. And?

It is a fact that Ron Kirk lost to John Cornyn for the Senate seat because white Democrats in the non-metro areas voted for Cornyn. Does that make the Democratic Party racist?

If you were there, did the Hispanic Tea Party leader speak? What did he have to say about the whole deal? Was the entire event just a three-minute speech, or did you decide to find the most inflammatory part and post it, and ignore the rest?

  • @wnorred I cut out the parts that were boring and stupid and left in the parts that were outrageous and stupid.

  • Wow That's a big crowd of People that showed up.

  • Ironic for Rednecks to be discriminating on Stolen land.

  • Racism has survived in the South since the Civil W. We need to get rid of everything that is associated with the Confederacy as we have done with that of the Nazis. The Civil War was brought on by a struggle between those who opposed slavery (the Union) and those who wanted to keep slaves (The Confederacy); it was not a conflict between industrialist and agriculturalist as many people believe. The Confederacy lost. Why are we celebrating these people who stood for everything that is UnAmerican?

  • That's according to a recent "Truth-O-Meter" check run by journalistic fact-checking watchdog PoltiFact Texas (and undertaken - surprise, surprise -- by PoltiFact's staffers at the liberal Austin American-Statesman). PoltiFact operates at several newspapers across the country.

    We rate Forest's statement True."

    Assimilate or leave

  • @xaviair27 Wow you are a real duchbag. Stupid, with several kids no doubt with different dads, your yard is trashed, your dogs bark constantly, you're on every form of "free" taxpayer provided program, don't even have a GED. You are all about taking and do not give back. Watch your uneducated moron children live and die a miserable life , hey just like you. This is AMERICA Bitch and we won't let you distroy The U.S. like you have done in your homeland.

  • I cannot fathom how it is that United Staters, especially those in Tejas, Nuevo México, Arizona, Alta California, Nevada, La Florida, Colorado, and Utah can be so up in arms about people coming to "their" country illegally when they are in México illegally. If she doesn't like what's going on in Tejas, then Rebecca Forest should LEAVE MÉXICO and go back to her own country in Europe! Otherwise, she should learn Spanish, speak it fluently, and realize she's in México's stolen land.

  • ignorant lady. Your neighboring country is Mexico. Kids should learn the language as it would be an asset to them. I don't know anyone who says they wish they didn't know another language. THis lady is a racist small minded person.
