A group of friends from opencarry.org are enjoying a picnic at Burke Lake Park in Virginia when the Fairfax County PD are called. A park employee notices a picnic attendee has a firearm and is openly carrying it. First they orbit a helicopter overhead for 10+ minutes before they move in to check the situation out. This video was recorded after FCPD made initial contact with the picnic group and they (FCPD) returned to speak to us and end the call.

  • It's helpful to know where some of these folks who are commenting live.

Here in Virginia, those of us who carry a firearm (either open or concealed) generally enjoy a very cordial relationship with law enforcement. It is well established that Virginia is very respectful of the law abiding citizen's right to carry a firearm. Other states are not so enlightened but could do well to see how Virginia is doing it right. We have a bit to go for true freedom, but I'm not going to argue to loudly.

  • @snowbird29803 I do not see any dichotomy since I don't see any division.

The FFPD officers took an oath to preserve and protect and the OCDO folks are very careful about the laws and how to handle situations.

Full Disclosure: I open carry and post comments on the OCDO website.

  • @f15mech

Creates a dichotomy. On one hand the cops should not feel nervous around lawful citizens. After all, lawful citizens are not the type to commit a violent act. Gun folks are particularly careful to keep their emotions in check when carrying. On the other hand, cops are not above the law and are just as apt to get shot if they were committing a violent crime. Courts have held citizens harmless when resisting a false arrest. I do know we humans get diarrhea of the mouth. So don't chat.

  • @snowbird29803

Clearly the FFPD officers were looking to make an arrest and the officers were very nervous about all of the armed citizens the surrounded them.

    Well handled FFPD and OCDO.

One reason I choose to live in VA.

  • Avoid prolonged "chit-chats" with cops; they are always on-duty and looking for an excuse to arrest someone. It's human nature to fill idle moments with yakking, and it's that yakking that makes you trip over your tie and divulge confidences. When you are involved in police business, it's always better to just say you have nothing helpful to add to their inquires and get away asap. Everybody in jail talked to cops; they told a lie or told the truth. Keep your pie-hole shut! Nothing compels talk.

  • @GrizzPaul AZ, VT and AL. I hope it catches on.

  • @DobermansRock i am against open carry guns belong to cops not people

  • @shipple actually they changed the law in GA
