Hi. I'm Alex from Madison, Connecticut. Senator Obama, you voted to support a fisher-tropsch coal liquefaction plant, but you also have made statements about how we need to fight global warming. Please reconcile these two opposing views, and why you supported the dirty process of coal liquefaction, instead of other, cleaner alternatives, like biodiesel, fuel efficiency, or just continuing to burn regular diesel fuel. Thanks.

  • Oh man.... Global warming is a myth it's not 100% proven...

  • Thanks for the insight, Exxonmobil! Seriously though, the IPCC has stated in a conservative (reaserch conservative, not politcally conservative) report that the probably that humans are causing global warming is over 90%. So basically, you are totally wrong.

  • I don't believe carbon dioxide causes global warming. A colorless inert gas that is in trace amounts in the atmosphere would have very little effect in the earth's temperature. Water vapor is a much larger contributer of trapping heat in the atmosphere than CO2. This is evident when looking at the absorption spectrum of CO2 and H2O in the infrared light. I see man-made global warming as a money maker for the government and scientist by taxing companies for producing carbon dioxide.

  • ok, I am wondering why people dont consider hydrogen over all of these. Its easy to produce, either chemical, steam iron or solar-electrolysis.

Hydrogen also burns zero emissions and by comparison has the best outcome of all others I have seen being considered thus far. Even if by some fairy land reason it was more costly in money to produce than fossil fuels or bio-fuels (which it isn't) the zero emissions would make it still a better choice...

  • keep buying those carbon offsets and lining Gore's pockets. The planets closest to earth also rose by the same temp. Last time I looked there were no SUV's on Mars. We are not the cause. It's a scam. Live your life.

  • Biden said this week - no coal - at the same time the Obama campaign released an add touting clean coal - jackasses. Global warming may be occuring however you cannot prove we are the cause. The other plants closest to Earth rose in the same temp as the Earth. We need to get over ourselves. This earth will be here longer than any of us. Keep buying those Carbon offsets and lining Gores pockets dumbasses.

  • Well, Co2 is not that big of a deal. Biofuels don't contain things like sulfur and other pollutants in gasoline which are much worse.

  • Actually biofuels are not cleaner. The idea behind them is, but so far they havent proven to be cleaner. Burning biofuels produces more Co2 than burning regular gasoline.

While I agree that global warming is something that we have to address. The only 100% solution is a switch to hydrogen. We all know thats not going to happen for another 20 years or so.

Coal to liquid fuel will help US dependancy on imported oil and costs about $0.43 per gallon to make.

  • It is only agreed upon by every scientist that has ever studied it. What else could you ask for...?

  • apparrantly you dont do any research
