Feeding the baby

Cuddles and comfort are as important for you baby as feeding is. Don't let anyone tell you that your bottle-fed baby won't bond with you. There is no reason why bottle -feeding can't be a warm and loving experience. If it's summer you can let your baby feel your bare skin. Make sure that you are comfortable. Feeding your baby in an awkward position will only compound the aches and pains most new mothers feel.

Never feed your baby while he or she is lying down. The milk can go up the tiny tubes and into baby's ears causing ear infections. Cradling your baby in your arms is the easiest position. Don't prop the bottle and leave a young baby to feed itself; it is dangerous.

To protect your clothes and your baby's clothes, remember to put a bib on the baby. Younger babies need to be burped two or three times during each feed. They find it hard to burp naturally on their own. If your baby is crying, screaming and squirming during a feed he or she probably needs to be winded. Sit your baby up (making sure to support the head if he or she is a newborn.) Rub baby's back gently in round circular movements until he burps. This may take a while. Wind usually becomes less of a problem as a baby gets older. When your baby has finished his bottle tip any left over milk out. Bacteria from your baby's mouth can be introduced into the milk and multiply quickly. If your baby is a newborn (under 3 months) tip the milk out within twenty minutes after the feed.

  • Oh my god... This is just pathetic.

You can't even watch a bottle feeding video without FULL GROWN ADULTS spitting up in the comments.

And this is a really cute video, too. I think I might adopt one day. :)

  • I noticed that the "health professional" nitilly says that there could be breast milk or formula in the bottle. In the next sentence she refers only to formula. Also group instruction in formula/bottle feeding contravenes the World health Organization/UNICEF Code on the marketing of breastmilk substitutes. It should be done on an individual as needs basis.

  • I think a lot of people are missing the point of this video. My wife breastfeeds but as a dad that really isnt an option for me (obviously). I find videos like these great for guys because our daughter didnt want to take the bottle and she screamed like crazy. But persistance and patience is the key. Make sure your wife is not in the room and keep trying eventually the baby will understand this is her only option for milk. Keep it up daily and it will get easier.

  • awww the midwife is amazing (: i'd take advice off her any day (: <3 xxxx

  • This video is full of crap. They cut out the part where the baby will fuss for over an hour after burping.

By the way, deciding not to breast feed will NOT make you a Nazi sympathizer.

  • @Lyn7721 thank you. I'm not against breastfeeding but way too many people do insult bottle feeding moms and it's sad. I've had friends who were bottlefeeding for many reasons and they were insulted in the hospital even. One almost died in birth and the last thing she was thinking about was breastfeeding.

  • @EmmaEmma888 because I think housewives are lazy I am a troll? Not hardly and I'd advise you to find out what a troll is instead of sitting online all day eating bon bons and getting fat along with being lazy.

  • @RadioLaPrincess You. Are a troll.

  • @EmmaEmma888 not hardly. They spend all day watching soaps and eating bon bons. Or they spend all day shopping and working out while the nanny takes care of the kids. Neither of those types are hard workers. Work harder than me? Nope. Besides they can sleep in and take naps all day. They are just too lazy to work for a living.

  • @RadioLaPrincess Oh and as for having ''No Respect'' for full time mummies, I would like to point out that these women are NEVER off duty. They work 24hours a day with no day off, no holiday pay and most of the time, no thanks. I'd go as far as to say that they probably work harder than you.

  • @RadioLaPrincess Babies come with a whole host of responsibility - not just feeding - the dad can do his ''fair share'' without making the baby drink fake milk because you're too insecure to have time off work!. If you wanted to go back to work, you could always pump your milk, so that your baby still has the best start in life but then again, I doubt that you'd have the commitment for that.

  • @EmmaEmma888 it's not my complete responsibility to take care of the baby. Dad should have responsibility just as much. And no, I wouldn't stay at home. I have no respect for women who do.
