Is this a joke? Ashcroft is one of the numbskulls who supports the Patriot Act which is a outright attack on the Bill of Rights (specifically the IV, V, and VI amendments). Don't try to justify the Patriot Act and defend you actions. If Ashcroft and the current administration had their way we would be living with Marshall Law. Don't try to act like a Patriot when your actions have the founding father's rolling in their graves.

it is unbelieveable, he is actually comparing the patriot act with the proclamation of emancipation (wich didn't change much for the slaves that were not part of the confederate states so his analogy is crappy anyway), this speech could have been held by hitler, with a lot more passion, no offense ashcroft

Ashcroft arrested close to 5,000 Muslims in the U.S. Yet he offered no evidence for it!! And after he WASN'T ABLE TO OBTAIN A SINGLE CONVICTION, he didn't even offer an apology to the defendants who spent nearly 3-years in jail!
