Trekkies or Trekkers

My parents on the show "Get Fresh", with host Gaz Top and their friend Stuart Clark - who is now a well respected author and astronomy journalist! Discussing Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek VI, and the fans!

Recorded at Border TV studios in Carlisle, for ITV.

(Not too sure why the red channel is flickering, but it's copied from a VHS tape that's very probably 20 years old)

At a Star Trek convention many years ago when Gene Roddenberry used the term Trekkies" to describe fans of the show, only to be corrected by a fan that stood up and yelled "Trekkers!" Gene Roddenberry responded with "No, it's 'Trekkies.' I should know — I invented the thing." THE END!

@Timepiece80 I agree, whatever Roddenberry coined should be the standard, i believe there is an interesting line about that in "Trekkies"

@Rowskid86 SOmehow i agree with you, Gene coined the term trekkie and that works for me. Someone refers to themselves as a trekker, I generally ignore them from that point on. In my mind it's good way to point out that you are not A TOS watcher or fan.

I guess that makes me not a true star trek fan... I was never bothered by the term trekkie.. Actually, I didn't hear about trekker until I saw the movie "Fanboys"

I am a Trekkie , I prefer the term "Trekkie", I don't give a shit if some assholes think of it as a disrespect, it is not. If Roddenberry used the term "Trekkies" then that's it.
