The Project "Timbira People: working to the land management", executed by the NGO Indigenist Working Centre (CTI), is part of a 20-year effort on technical, educational and political assistance to the Timbira People, inhabitants of Maranhão and Tocantins States, in the Cerrado biome, central Brazil. The Timbira population is more than five thousand people, distributed in six indigenous territories, with 28 villages. This project was elaborated and executed by CTI in collaboration with the Wyty Catë Association. The main objective is to develop capacity of territorial managers, mainly young people, using ethno-maps. The effort is to contribute to the planning and protection of the indigenous territories, preventing conflicts from external pressures. The project promoted regional seminars in each indigenous territory, what resulted in problems and opportunities matrices. The next step will be a great seminar with all the Timbira groups to design a joint management strategy.
