Well, it´s got nothing to do with color!LOL! Ducks are social birds, the optimal/natural male:female-ratio is a minimum of 5 ducks per drake (1:5). Also: did you watch closely? When ducks mate it LOOKS as if the drakes are drowning the females because they "ride" on them, this is normally fine for the females. Of course accidents can happen! Also: I´ve read about drakes drowning ducklings for the reason to make the mother ducks "ready and willing" again. Or maybe they just dislike each other?

What is it with while runners? Two of my Whites are named after 20th century fascist dictators - I constantly catch them trying to drowned the other ones.
Hi ...I have about 40 duck of all kind and I was wondering what is the best food for them .....I feed them with cracked corn and bread....Is it enought for them to lay egg ???

@86mustang07 Hello! No, corn and bread is not enough. For a quick overview this text could be of interest to you: "wwwDOTcesDOTncsuDOTedu/depts/poulsci/tech_manuals/feeding_ducks.html". Plus it´s always good to additionally feed hardboiled crushed eggs once a week to improve laying.

Are the runner ducks similar to chickens? Do the runner ducks lay eggs even if there is no male?

Nope, they have different needs: ducks need different food and different environment than chickens, but that doesn´t mean that one cannot have them together in the same garden. They need a seperate coop to sleep, though! And yes: ducks lay eggs regardless if there´s a drake or not, egg-laying mostly depends on "good and plenty food".
