@slee5791 It's not entirely fair to bash the British as Hong Kong was better before China took full control. It's horrible not being able to speak out against anything the Chinese government do and living in fear that one day your friends or family may just 'disappear'.

hkistink, you obviously didn't know what you were talking about. HK remained largely undeveloped for over 100 years under Briths rule. Thanks to the Civil war in China, a wave of CHINESE migrants with skills and capital came and many corporations in Shanghai and Guangzhou shifted their operations to Hong Kong. The miracle was largely the work of the Chinese people. The Brits only provided the framework and basically they did almost nothing else other than treating Hong Kong as the cash cow.
