PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU ARE SENSITIVE TO DIZZINESS OR ANY OTHER KIND OF MOTION SICKNESS, YOU MIGHT NOT WANT TO WATCH THE FIRST FOUR MINUTES OF THIS VIDEO. This is due to some of my sloppy recording in the early part of this video, which I apologize for.

Sandia Peak Tramway is located in Albuquerque New Mexico. It is at the base of the Sandia Mountains at an elevation of 6,559 feet or about 2,000 meters. There are two towers on the way to the top of Sandia Peak, which support the cables of the tram cars. The first tower is at an elevation of 7,010 feet (2137 meters) and stands 232 feet (70.7 meters) tall. The second tower is at an elevation of 8.750 feet (2667 meters) and stands 80 feet (24 meters) tall. Due to the lack of a construction road, helicopters were completely used to build the second tower. Shortly past the second tower is the half way point where the tram cars meet. Upon passing the second tower, there is a nice view of Sandia Peak to the east, which is where the tram cars dock at the top.

IMPORTANT: The change in altitude will result in a drop in temperatures when you reach Sandia Peak. The trip up Sandia Peak is like going from the climate of Mexico to Alaska. Even on the hottest summer day in Albuquerque, it can still get cold at night on top of Sandia Peak. However, daytime temperatures on Sandia Peak in the summer can be tolerable.

In the autumn, the aspens on the Sandia Mountains can sometimes turn a beautiful yellow. These aspens normally reach their peak in early October but that does vary from year to year.

Winters in the Sandias are long and cold compared to Albuquerque. Even on the sunniest winter days, there is still snow on top of the Sandia Mountains. Skiing lifts are present on Sandia Peak but they can't be used when there isn't enough snow.

On some winter days, like the one in this video, there can be fog that appears or covers the Sandia Mountains. The amount of snow can also change, depending on where you are in the Sandia Mountains.

The word Sandia means watermelon in Spanish. These mountains were given that name because they turn pink during the winter sunsets. In the summer, this pink color is not as likely to occur.

That is all I can think to mention for right now. Yes, I know this video description was definitely long but I thought the background of Sandia Peak Tramway would be helpful.

The song in this video is called "Reaction Time (NSB Mix)" by the artist His Boy Elroy.

  • Your welcome.

  • WOW! Beautiful and we are up high, I had to look away a couple times Im serious.

  • When you say you had to look away, are you referring to how high up the photos were taken or the nonstop action of my recording? I apologize about the sloppy recording because I do know that it may have the potential to give someone motion sickness.
