Psychic steps in to smooth Mr Asbos ruffled feathers
A SWAN whisperer has attempted to persuade an angry bird nicknamed Mr Asbo to stop attacking rowers on the River Cam.
Smooth-talking psychic Michelle Childerley hopes to convince him to quit his home in Fen Ditton.
The move comes after rowers in Cambridge called for the Queen to remove the aggressive swan, which attacks people using the river.
More than 1,000 rowers use the stretch of water at Fen Ditton where the bird nests.
Rowers say the swan caused untold disruption and injury last year along the river and that it has now started attacking people closer to the city.
On Thursday the animal communicator from Huntingdon Road, Cambridge, stepped in and had a word with the swan.
She says that all thats needed is a quick Dr Doolittle-style chat, to get him to ditch his aggressive ways and move on.
The TV psychic, who recently appeared on Sky TVs Pet Nation, told the News: I have been talking to him through his photograph to create a communication link with him.
My recommendation to him is that he migrates to somewhere outside the city. Hes not really flavour of the month around here. He needed to be told what people were saying about him and it hasnt been good.
Before I got there I used a technique called the balance procedure with him and the change was remarkable.
I got very close to him but not too near in the morning, but later I managed to get pretty close.
When I was communicating telepathically first of all he portrayed a feeling of fear and being quite angry with humans.
A lot relates to his cygnets being killed last year. He also gave me an image of a rower with a boater on and sunglasses and the words Gonville and Caius.
He is not agreeing to leave because this is his environment and he feels he is where hes meant to be but he is now much calmer.
Hopefully this should mean he will stop attacking people.
The bird patrols a 1,600ft (488m) stretch of water near its nest in Fen Ditton.
The Cam Conservators said they have been in discussions about its removal.
Her Majestys Warden of the Swans, Prof Chris Perrins, who works in the zoology department at Oxford University, said: The Crown does not own this bird but it can claim it.
River users nicknamed the bird Mr Asbo last year after he spent the summer attacking boats on the river.
Bill Key, president of the Cambridgeshire Rowing Association, has asked the Cam Conservators to remove the offending bird before someone is badly injured or worse.
A television crew from the BBCs The One Show was filming the swan on the river yesterday.
He will feature in the programme on Monday night.
End.
