On July 27, 2007 entered the U19 Basketball World Championship for Women as true underdogs.
Sweden (ranked #66 in the world - tied with all the other countries having 0 points in the rankings) had never even participated in a World Championship before ... not on any level - male or female - in the history of Swedish basketball.
So when the girls not only started winning, but actually advanced to the quarterfinals, defeating countries like Brazil (ranked #4) in the process, it was quite the achievement.
On August 3, they took on the hosts themselves, the Slovak Republic.
Slovakia had fallen behind by six points after the first period (23-17), but it could have been worse as Sweden had established a 12-point advantage at one stage.
The hosts then came back in the second, but the Scandinavians scored seven unanswered points to end the half on a high and 39-34 in front.
A resurgent Slovakia again clawed their way back in the third quarter, taking it by 19-7 and gaining a seven-point lead 53-46.
But Sweden hit back, claiming 14 points without reply to establish their own seven-point advantage, and they went on to securing a place in the semifinals.
Needless to say, the Swedish girls were quite pleased with themselves.
But it didn't end there ...
