@DShinskey One thing you had going in your favor was that the tree was just a large sapling. Sure as hell not a "nice big oak." Seriously, for your health and longevity, learn how to make the basic felling cuts properly; lots of references/courses available. Then doing it right comes naturally.

thats a dog tooth cut kind of, which is used for felling heavily leaning trees in the weighted direction. as someone else said the tree could have split upwards, kicking the butt end out towards you, lookily you wasnt stood behind it. you should have just done a standard cut? plus you wasted like 3 foot of oak there mate,you should have took it off about 8" above ground level. do yourself a basic chainsaw course mate, thats all ive done

@jonesbrent85 Eh, Big to me, since we don't have crazy big trees on my land to cut. It's a 15" tree.

@sharks1664 Don't worry. I cut it lower after, not much is sticking out of the ground.

no offense but the backcut should be parrell to the face cut keep doing like this in the video u may get hurt
