Hi, I'm Tom Parent for DR Power Equipment. Hopefully you've had a chance to watch the first chapter of this DVD. If so, you know the many home gardening and landscaping uses of the DR Roto-Hog Power Tiller. What we'd like to focus on in this chapter is the preparation and planting of food plots for wildlife management.

We've asked our own Bradley Carleton to tell you more about food plots and how the DR Tiller is specially suited to create them. Bradley, a veteran Customer Service Representative at DR Power Equipment, is also a professional outdoor guide and an expert on many conservation and wildlife management issues.

Thanks Tom. This food plot looks terrific. As you know, there's a growing interest in managing food-plots specifically for wildlife. What's driving this interest are government regulations aimed at stopping the spread of certain wildlife diseases, particularly chronic wasting disease in our deer populations. More and more it's becoming illegal to feed wildlife because this often brings many animals together to feed in a very small area, sometimes no bigger than a dining room table. In situations like these disease can spread, decimating wildlife.

Food plots work because they cover a wider area, animals are less likely to mingle and disease is less likely to spread.

So, that's why outdoors men are looking for better ways to till, plant and grow food-plots.
Right. And today, most of the equipment that's available for creating food plots are drag-type machines that use discs to break up the soil, and a planter to plant the seed. But the one's I've seen demonstrated are ponderous, non-powered devices that require a lot of external power and traction to pull them. As a result, they can require dozens of passes to get the soil ready for planting.

And that's why I really like the self-powered DR Roto-Hog™, because it's a much more aggressive and yet compact alternative to what's out there.

Now, that's important. Because, not only are we in the middle of nowhere, but tilling is tough on any piece of machinery.

That's right, Tom. This DR Roto-Hog™ is built to keep going no matter what. It has 2 and 3/4 inches of clearance so it can be towed from place to place. It has it's own engine, so it turns soil thoroughly and quickly. And you don't need nearly as much weight or power to pull it as with those heavy, non-motorized units. The DR is just plain easy to operate.

I love the fact that the tilling depth, and the spreader can be controlled on-the-move. There's no need to stop, dismount, re-set and start over.

So, Bradley, we know the Roto-Hog does a great job tilling. Tell us how it is for planting.

OK. But you know before planting you may want to test your soil's pH. If soil is too alkaline, or too acidic, plants will be not be able to absorb nutrients efficiently. But with the DR's optional Spreader attachment, you can easily correct any imbalance by spreading and incorporating either lime or sulfur, and once your soil's set, plant your crop. The DR Culti-Packer's unique design enables you to apply approximately 270 lbs. of downdraft pressure on the unit...to make sure that your planted seeds come into good contact with the soil. So, if you want to put in a food plot to attract wildlife, you won't find a faster, easier way than with the DR Roto-Hog Power Tiller.

It's a dynamite machine that runs circles around the big drag-behind units We're proud of the way it came out. And I think you will be too!
