The Twilight Zone: Season 1, Episode 39 Eye of the Beholder (30 Apr. 2003)

Janet Tyler, a women with facial deformities in a totalitarian society that emphasizes conformity even in in physical appearance, is undergoing her twelfth surgery in an attempt to make her appear normal. It is the last chance she can legally receive to alter her looks, and if it succeeds, she will fit in with those around her for the first time in her life. If it fails, she must be transported to a "segregated" colony of those who look like her rather than as the norm do

I think you're thinking too deeply into the details. The concept is what is important.

I really appreciate that they remade this classic episode and even kept the majority of the script identical to the original. Unfortunately, the magic of the 60s episodes was always in the amazing acting. This remake fell short on that.

I remember seeing this episode as a little girl and thinking that this was the most creative writing and twilight zone episode ever and then I saw the original and was even more amazed
